At first I felt overwhelmed

At first I felt overwhelmed, even asked daughter if any way she could cancel & get her money back. Before long I realized I could pick my own topics, didn't always need to go by the prompting questions. I felt more control. Pretty soon I warmed up to writing my stories any way I wanted, but wanting them to be readable & maybe enjoyable to the small group with whom they would be shared. Very time consuming, and feeling pressure to get the stories written. Plus selecting photos or photocopies of items.

Unexpected joy

I thought at first it was the dumb gift because I was certainly not a writer. But once so started writing it became addictive. Brought back memories that I had long since forgotten. The dumbest gift became truly loved expression of Love that I could have ever have gotten. Over 300 pages later book is printed beautifully and is deeply appreciated.

This is something I always meant to do

This is something I always meant to do. I am reliving so many experiences; revisiting my beloved relatives via my vivid memories of them. Looking back on my choices and experiences I can see how I evolved into the person I am now. Storyworth’s format is like “eating an elephant” - one bite at a time. It was a Christmas gift from my son Mark and one of the best gifts I have ever received.

My dad absolutely loved it

My dad absolutely loved it. He is a retired writer and loves writing but the prompts that I wrote for him every week gave him direction to create a beautifully curated story. We also went through crates and crates of old albums of photos together that I helped him include in his book. It was a beautiful experience that neither one of us will forget.

Great way to learn about/make memories

I gifted this subscription to my dad a little over a year before he passed. We spent the last year of his life writing these stories and making memories together. I am so grateful to have these stories forever. I ended up having to order about 20 of these because family and friends wanted their own copies. Really high-quality books and easy to navigate the site. A great gift that I will always cherish.

Storyworth process is enjoyable

The Storyworth process functions very well, which makes it simple and enjoyable to write and archive personal stories. The questions have led me to reminiscing about aspects of life that I have not spent much time thinking about for many years. I appreciate that my adult children and possibly others will learn more about these parts of my life.

Fun writing

I was surprised that writing my story was actually fun. I would look forward to seeing what the new question would be each Monday. If I didn’t like it, there were always other questions I could answer. When it was time to edit my work, I was glad I was able to talk to a REAL person who was most helpful. My only frustration with the software was I could not underline or use italics . That proved a problem when writing about books, movies or TV programs . But for the most part I was quite satisfied.

An Unexpected Glimpse of My Life!

The process is simple. It took me a little while to figure out the editing on the photos and comments, but once I figured it out, I was able to enlarge or reduce the size of pictures and add comments. The unexpected surprise was bringing back memories of my earlier life I had long forgotten. I was impressed by the quality of the book and the photos I included. It was a great gift from my kids and grandkids after they heard me mention I wish I had asked my parents more questions about their earlier lives before they were unable to remember and before they passed away. I hope some of my stories bring joy to my children. My only regret is I wish I had added a few more photos.

Lives Well Lived and Misfortunes Overcome.

So far this has been a wonderful experience. A chance to tell stories about my family life growing up and the memories I can share about my grandparents and parents. Stories I wish I could have had about their lives which we never asked and felt it intrusive to inquire. This was mainly due to the relocation of the Japanese during WW2 when we were told to blend in and not create waves. I hope the little insight my husband and I can leave for our children and grandchildren can somehow fill in the gaps about their ancestry. A gift for future generations and well worth the effort.

I received this as a gift

I received this as a gift. At first it felt onerous but I am truly enjoying remembering things from my past. As I get better at looking ahead at future questions, and keeping a notebook with me for those ideas that just pop into your head, it’s getting easier to do.

Writing a "book" is something I have…

Writing a "book" is something I have thought about doing, but didn't have anything I felt was worthwhile. Cop stories about car chases, getting shot at, saving a few lives, etm., should have been memorialized when it was fresh in my memory, but really wasn't about me and all the aspects of my family. Having the weekly writing prompts makes the book about me, not the things I have done.

Getting a homework assignment for Christmas

My husband and I were given the gift of Storyworth from our daughter last Christmas. We laughed about our gift being homework. However, it has served to focus us on a year long weekly journey of remembrance. We do our homework together each week and it never fails to make us laugh or cry about events in the past and focus us on what is truly important in life. It makes us consider the legacy we are leaving to our family.
All in all, Storyworth has been a positive experience and we look forward to the remainder of our assignments this year. Although we have not chosen to change things up, I think it’s wonderful that someone could chose their own questions and add pictures.
Storyworth is an excellent idea!

Storyworth gave my 92 year old father…

Storyworth gave my 92 year old father the opportunity to write his life’s stories and family history. He is leaving all of us with this precious gift which we will always cherish.

The idea of the book is great but printing formatting had issues

The idea of the book is great! My mom did not enjoy answering the questions and typing them in so I had to basically interview her and put her answers into the prompts. This is not the idea of the book but it was fun discussing the answers with her.
I reviewed the stories several times before sending for print; editing and "issues" that appeared at the sides. However, when I goty the book there were several spacing errors between punctuation which I assume occurred during formatting for printing. These errors did not sit well with me and I emailed storyworth but I have not received any response yet. I don't feel like gifting the book to my mother in its current condition.

Writing responses to the weekly…

Writing responses to the weekly questions has prompted me to look back and think about my life. In doing these written responses, I have realized there are things about my life that my children and grandchildren might have never known about me. What a great way to pass along memories! I'm looking forward to seeing the book that will be produced at the end of the year!

My son gave me this program as a 70th…

My son gave me this program as a 70th birthday present and it is just fantastic. He knows I love to write and he is interested in hearing about family history and details, it is being a year long delight for both of us. Have found it pretty easy to use - just when I go back and edit or add photos, it was at first confusing that the updated version does not show up on my e-mail, but I have ascertained that the edited version is saved and does go through to him, so that’s fine. Only possible quibble is, doesn’t take coloured photos - but many of what I am adding are old black and white ones anyway, so not a huge issue. The questions are well chosen and interesting.

What a fabulous experience!

What a fabulous experience! It was a trip back through memories of my youth. It sparked many long forgotten memories. I enjoyed every moment of my Storyworth experience . There was always someone available to answer any questions about the process! I wish I had this for my parents to do, as I could have learned so much more about their lives!

The experience of writing my story…what sharing my story has done!

The experience of writing my story based on questions asked by my children has been eye opening to what they want to know about their family history. I am enjoying sharing information and new questions that have come up during this process. I am finding that they want more specifics, and this has open a great sharing of my life that they knew little about.

A lifetime to remember

I love the different suggestions that are sent right to my email things I would never think of. And the sensitivity that is shown on holidays due to individual losses. I can’t wait to see the final product it’s a gift for my son he once said to me I need some things to remember you. My jewelry won’t help him feel comfort but maybe my words will.

The questions are a very useful guide…

The questions are a very useful guide to what to write especially for someone like me who is not really creative so having a topic pre picked takes away the stress. The questions were nicely spaced and not too many. The book is beautifully presented and my family say it sounds like me.
