I've done 7 books with AuthorHouse. Each time the experience has been very professional and worth the investment.

Excellent overall, except some staff seem more interested in selling marketing programs than seeing to it that each marketing program already sold is fully developed.

I've published using AuthorHouse in 2002, 2004, and 2019. Always satisfactory, it blew me away this year. It was eleven days between the submission of my manuscript and publication! They gave me a link to a website of stock images for the cover and told me to pick two. I told them what I envisioned and they got it right. I would recommend AuthorHouse without hesitation.

Author House has given me the self belief as an Author. I absolutely love the staff, they are so professional, kind, firm with their words just amazing. Author’s that want to publish a book should publish a book, and Authors who need to publish will publish a book.

This was a great opportunity to publish my own books. I enjoyed the experience. I worked with a wonderful project manger, Rema, who took me through the process. The prep and creative teams are great in moving you though the process.
However, Authorhouse has this system set up to sell you more and more services. They extort your desire to be famous and provide you more exposure with promises of marketing support which you ultimately pay for. For instance a free website (but it's only available for 1 year and then you pick up the cost), a listing on the NYTimes book list (not bestseller list - just a list) for $5000 and they'll send you copies of your books at a discount - $15,000.
I'm happy with my books and the final outcome, but I wouldn't publish with this or any other self-publishing company. I believe it's a money maker for them.
Lastly, the sell-through reporting stinks. They can provide you with their sell-thru albeit very delayed, but worse is you don't know what you've sold thru on other sites or though other outlets. For instance, my book was published in February and I have no idea how many books I"ve sold on Amazon or Barnes for instance. How can one make an informed decision about the marketing direction unless one knows where the sales are strong and/or need help.

In 15 years I have published 11 books with AuthorHouse. In the early days the process was difficult, exasperating. In latter years it has become a pleasure to publish with AuthorHouse. My books of this year and last year went through preparation for printing smoothly and rapidly with no snags whatever. The initial cost is reasonable. However, promotion of a printed book is very expensive, beyond the reach of most self-published authors.

It would be much easier if you could work with just one person during the whole ordeal

Eager to get paid AuthorHouse will happily take your payment, but due to a constant turnover of employees you may or may not get your project off the ground any time soon. Not to say it won't happen, it's just a matter of "is this employee going to be the one that gets things done or will we need to wait for the next one to be trained?" If you need proof reading, editing, or any other writing services it'll cost extra. Then there is the constant calls from the marketing department who refuse to take "No" for an answer with judgementle emplications that "fear" is what is stopping you from handing them more money while insisting that you pay more and more for marketing campaigns with no assurances of a return on your investments. If you do happen to make it through to see the project completed you might get 10% of each sell unless you outsource. My final product looks great though.

Terrible service!!! Slow and sloppy!!! Don’t respond to your emails or phone calls timely. They have no marketing plan! I had to go over and over the editing. Too many errors! I would never used them every again!

We find there are too many different people we have to deal with on the multiple steps we have to go through in the publishing process. In the good old days in 2006, we dealt with one- Rich Van Lue!
